ATLAS UPDATES

Changelog

New galleries, recovered history, and a better way to explore Buffalo. Here’s what has changed.

Dates mark updates to the atlas. Project milestones and image dates appear on each profile.

Site improvement

Back returns from an enlarged image to the project or photo archive at the same reading position.

  • Forward restores the image. Close and Escape consume the image history step, and leaving a project closes its image viewer.

Photo navigation on the image edges

Previous and next arrows sit halfway down the left and right edges of gallery images.

  • Removed the center enlargement icon. Clicking the picture still opens the full image; the edge arrows browse photos.

    More accurate map pins

The site owner can now correct a project’s map position from its profile.

    • Saved corrections remain in place when the catalog is rebuilt. Visitors can continue suggesting location corrections through Feedback.

    Project videos and news coverage

Seven sourced videos are available across Buffalo AKG, 201 Ellicott and the Statler.

    • Videos retain their publisher, publication date and project phase. Supported videos play after a click; direct publisher links remain available.
    • Coverage is separated into proposal, construction and later updates so older footage is not presented as a current project status.

The changing plans for 201 Ellicott

A 19-image gallery follows the site from a surface parking lot through unbuilt proposals, the 2019 redesign and the completed development.

    • Five gallery chapters distinguish the preliminary concept, the unbuilt tower proposal and the later affordable housing and market design.
    • Internet Archive research helped recover historical material. Source publication dates remain separate from archive capture dates.

    Gallery update

Fifteen images filled seven empty galleries, including South Elmwood / West Tupper.

    • Internet Archive recovered the March 2023 Elmwood/Tupper proposal rendering. It is presented separately from October 2026 construction photographs.
    • The Buffalo catalog’s empty-gallery count fell from 495 to 488 in this first batch.

A shareable page for every project

Project profiles now have their own stable links, making places easier to share and revisit.

    • Direct links work after a reload. Browser Back and Back to map preserve the browsing context when moving between profiles and the map.
    • Existing shared project links continue to resolve to the appropriate profile.
